One-way media, like the popular press, TV and cinema, haved mastered the art of getting people to "listen." These can convince a person to purchase something he doesn't need, make an unapologetic criminal appear sympathetic (or even the hero) and sway public opinion with subtle propaganda. (Have you ever tried to watch the same news event reported on CNN and then Fox?)
I also believe that the techniques that the one-way media employ (bombarded senses, ADD-inducing editing and inuendo) are what contribute the inability of people to listen to each other.
